WWF-Pacific and the Fiji Maritime Academy, with the support of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) By-catch and Integrated Ecosystem Management (BIEM) Initiative, are offering a limited number of scholarships to potential students interested in undertaking the above mentioned programme and interested in a career as Crew on fishing vessels.
Tuition Scholarships for DECK Hand Fishing Programme for Fijians |
Ninety scholarships for the Deck Hand Fishing Programme are on offer in 2022. The scholarships will
cover tuition only. The two courses that are part of the programme are Basic Sea Safety and Deck Hand
Fishing. Applicants with sea time experience would be an advantage.

Interested applicants are requested to submit an application letter with copies of required supporting

Attach the following supporting documents with your letter of application: original or certified copy of
your birth certificate; FSLC or FJC transcript or equivalent (if available); a passport size photograph;
curriculum vitae detailing any past work experience. For existing crew, a reference letter from a
nominating fishing company is required. Open to Fiji nationals only.

Deadline for applications: 4.30pm (Fiji ST) on Friday 3rd June, 2022. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
The BIEM Initiative is a key result area five of the of the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership
(PEUMP) programme, which is funded by the European Union and the Government of Sweden and is
executed by SPREP.
