Forty-seven new graduates, including 20 women, have been successfully trained through the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) to further support a skilled workforce in Vanuatu.
The achievements of these graduates were recognised at a graduation ceremony in Port Vila on 1 September 2022.

The graduates received qualifications in four programs - Education Support, Carpentry, Leadership and Management and Team Leader Skills Set.
While delivering the keynote address, the Vanuatu Skills Partnership’s Productive Sector Technical Advisor, Mr Warren Gama, recalled his journey as a student at APTC and congratulated the graduates for their determination in achieving their goals.
“I commend you for your dedication and sacrifice in completing your studies. I also share in the hopes that you will go on to make meaningful contributions in the sectors you will work in and contribute to Vanuatu’s development,” he said.
Australian Deputy High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Ms Clemency Oliphant, reiterated Australia’s commitment to supporting skills development in Vanuatu and the region to ensure the best possible employment outcomes for graduates.
“Australia is committed to supporting Vanuatu’s Human Resource Development goals. Since 2007, APTC has trained over 2,300 ni-Vanuatu men and women – providing skills and qualifications that allow them to contribute to Vanuatu’s economic development,” she said.
Graduate speaker, Ms Florida Tumu, reminded her fellow graduates of the importance of maximising their performance at any given task.
“Once you perform exceptionally well at the smaller tasks, your direct supervisors will be able to identify your potential to flourish at managerial roles within your respective organisations,” she stated.
APTC is one of Australia’s technical vocational education and training program in the Pacific and Timor-Leste, contributing to a more skilled, inclusive and productive workforce for the region.
APTC has been ensuring access to skills training to help address the needs of rural provinces in Vanuatu. Last month, APTC successfully graduated eight public servants in the Malampa Province and 13 educators and education officers from the Sanma Province who completed the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.
The graduates are the latest cohort to join over 17,000 APTC alumni in the region. Since its establishment in 2007, APTC has trained more than 2,300 Vanuatu nationals.
