 Scholarship opportunity for Teachings in Papua New Guinea

The U.S. Mission in Papua New Guinea is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (Fulbright TEA) Program. This prestigious program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and administered by IREX, with funding provided by the U.S. Government.

Program Overview

The Fulbright TEA Program provides outstanding secondary school teachers with the opportunity to enhance their teaching skills, gain exposure to U.S. educational practices, and engage in cultural exchange. Participants will attend academic seminars at a U.S. host university, collaborate with U.S. educators, and complete a minimum of 40 hours of field experience in a local secondary school.

The program also includes options for specialized cohorts in gender studies, media literacy, and climate education.


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

✅ Be a current full-time secondary-level teacher in English, English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Math, Science, Foreign Language, Social Studies, Journalism, or Communications, including special education teachers in these subjects.

✅ Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

✅ Have a minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience (preference for those with at least five years).

✅ Demonstrate strong English language proficiency.

✅ Be a citizen and resident of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, or Vanuatu.
