About the University of Twente Scholarship (UTS)
The University of Twente Scholarship, known as UTS, is a competitive, merit-based award set up to bring top-performing international students to the University of Twente in Enschede, the Netherlands, for graduate study. Rather than covering a student's entire cost of living and tuition, the grant is designed as partial support — a contribution toward the overall expense of studying abroad. Recipients are free to put the money toward tuition, rent, food, or any other study-related cost. Because only a limited number of awards are handed out each intake, selection is based squarely on academic strength and admission standing.
Programs / Field of Study
UTS funding is tied to admission into a qualifying Master's program at the university. Eligible fields span a wide technical and social-science range, among them:
- Engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical, industrial)
- Computer science, artificial intelligence, and data science
- Robotics and biomedical engineering
- Applied physics and mathematics
- Business administration and public administration
- Environmental science
Programs run through the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) fall outside the scope of this award.

Students hoping to carry the award into year two must keep an average score of 7/10 and clear at least half of the year's required ECTS credits by the third-quartile checkpoint.
Eligibility
Candidates must hold citizenship outside the EU/EEA, secure either conditional or full admission to a covered Master's program, and be set to begin in the September intake. English proficiency is mandatory — an overall IELTS Academic score of 6.5 (speaking no lower than 6.0) or a TOEFL iBT total of 90 (speaking at least 20). Applicants are also expected to have placed near the top of their cohort, generally the top 5–10%, and to satisfy Dutch visa rules where relevant.
The award is closed to Dutch and EU/EEA nationals, current UT students, past UT graduates, pre-Master's applicants, ITC program applicants, and anyone already qualifying for the Dutch statutory tuition rate.

Application Process
- Secure admission to a qualifying Master's program first.
- Wait for your admission letter.
- Get your student number issued.
- Fill out the UTS application online.
- Attach all required files.
- Submit before the cut-off date.
- Await the outcome. Students who also want to be considered for the Kipaji Scholarship should flag this within their motivation letter.
